Port Sudan

It is divided to two sides. The North quays for handling general cargo, edible oil and molasses through 11 berths with total length of 1663 meters and depths around 8.7 to 10.7 meters. The other side is the South quays which are allocated for container handling, petroleum and grain bulk. It consist of 4 berths and extends to 733 meters where depth indicates 10.7 up to 12.6 meters.

Port of Digna

It is located at Suakin and situated 60 K South of Port Sudan to serve coastal and passenger and livestock ships beside tourist yachts. There are 4 berths of 495 meters long and 9 meters dep plus LPG terminal in addition to a service berth 67 meters long.

Oseif Harbour

It is located 260 K North of Port Sudan and rehabilitated in 1993 and consist of one berth 62 meters long and 12.3 meters deep for expected iron ore export beside other natural recources such as manganese and jipsum around the port area.

PORT HANDLING EQUIPMENT

More than 300 units of port handling equipment are available. Major equipment such as 3 Gantry cranes and 7 R.T.G. beside 35 quay cranes, other Mobile cranes, forklifts, Ro/Ro trailers and tugboat are under daily service.

CONTAINER TRAFFIC

Container Terminal at South quay is highly equipped and up dated for handling. Meanwhile a progressive handling of F.C.L., L.C.L. and empty containers refer to positive results according to port operational analysis.

GENERAL INFORMATION

• Port Sudan is situated on latitude 19 13 East on the middle of Red Sea coast.
• Local time G.M.T. plus (3) hours.
• Port of Digna at Suakin is located on latitude 19 07 North- longitude 37 20 East (South of Port Sudan).
• On latitude 21 45 North and longitude 36 54 East Oseif Harbour is located (North of Port Sudan)
• Capacity of ports in Sudan is 8 million tons and expected to reach the limit of 11 million tons according to S.P.C. Port Planning.
• The port of Digna receives a total capacity of 1.5 million tons till now where port can be developed in extra berths according to the master plan later in future.
• Tawarit anchorage out of Port Sudan accommodates 10 to 12 ships and depths indicates 80M.
• Supply of drinking water for ships at Port Sudan is secured by S.P.C. beside other provisions.
• The only manned lighthouse is Sanganeb Northeast where other 34 automatic light beacon serve sea going on Red Sea and owned by S.P.C.
• Pilotage is compulsory.
• Towage 6 tug boats of 1600 HP - 2200 HP are on service.
• Port activities run opun three shifts around the day.
• 27 warehouse are owned by S.P.C. at Port Sudan totaling 5800m3
• Open storage areas of Port Sudan are 516.000m2
• On Port of Digna 14400m2 are located for storage areas while 27000m2 remain for emergencies.
• A warehouse at P.O. Digna is located for cargo & passenger service beside a passenger hall
